Morano Calabro [ˌ Morano ka ː labro] (Murenu [ˌ murɛ ː nu] in dialect moranese) is a Calabrian town of inhabitants located in the northern part of the province of Cosenza, bordered to the north by the municipalities of Rotonda, Viggianello and Terranova di Pollino, to the east by Castrovillari, on the south by Saracen and San Basile and to the west by Mormanno.

Its strategic location in the upper valley of the river Coscile (ancient Sybaris) on the slopes of the Pollino massif, has contributed to its development in the greek-roman era and its splendor in the Middle Ages and Renaissance under the fiefdom of Sanseverino.

Since 2003 he holds the appointment of the center among the most beautiful villages of Italy, Orange Flag by the Italian Touring Club, for its picturesque location and the preciousness of works of art preserved. Recently his name has been entered in the prestigious list of European destinations of the EDEN project of the European Commission.

Today it is one of the main centers of the Pollino National Park
